Jiří Karmazín

Academic painter Jiří Karmazín was born on December 24, 1932 in Dožice near Blatná in South Bohemia. In the years 1949–1953, he studied at the Higher School of Applied Arts in Prague. In 1957 he began studying painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (prof. Vlastimil Rada) and finished in 1963.

He receives the AVU main prize for his diploma thesis and leaves Prague for South Bohemia after an honors year. As early as 1966, he returned to the AVU for a three-year aspirant study. In 1969 he exhibited at the II. Prague Salon, a painting called “Picture from 1968”. It is removed from the exhibition by the cultural commission of the time on the grounds that “this work contradicts the cultural policy of the state”… more on Wikipedia
